LEE CLINCHES RETURN TO LIVERPOOL
BBC 16 May 2008
Former Liverpool midfielder Sammy Lee has returned to the club for the third time after being appointed as Rafael Benitez's assistant manager.
Lee previously worked as reserve and first-team coach under Graeme Souness, Roy Evans and Gerard Houllier.

The 49-year-old left to take up a full-time role with England in 2004 before joining Bolton as assistant in 2005.

He replaced Sam Allardyce as Bolton boss but was sacked after just six months in charge at the Reebok Stadium.

Lee replaced Allardyce in April 2007, shortly before the end of the season.

But he endured a terrible start to the following campaign, with Bolton lying second from bottom of the Premier League table when he was removed from his post.

Lee, who made 294 appearances for the Reds, will help to fill the gap left by Alex Miller, who left his role as first team coach to take up a managerial role in Japan.

Benitez has not had an assistant manager since the departure of Pako Ayesteran last August.
